our story

We founded VaVia because we saw an exciting opportunity to serve an unfulfilled need in the waste disposal business. About eight years ago, Phillip and his wife, Dana, founded the premium fashion brand, Peter Nappi. While enjoying and succeeding in the business, Phillip remained connected and ultimately returned “home” to the disposal and recycling industry – an industry in which he previously spent two decades.

With his new perspective, Phillip was able to spot the need for smaller trucks and containers in the roll-off business. Contractors needed more trucks that could navigate tight spaces and containers that could address new jobsite requirements. They also desired a higher level of service – an increased value that Phillip was accustomed to delivering to them in the past. In all of this, he also saw the opportunity to use technology for a smart, easy and polished solution for small contractors and residential customers.

Around this same time, John Crawford had moved to Alabama from Florida where he and a business partner had grown a small single-state business into a national enterprise. Once arriving at his new Birmingham home, he ended up with a garage full of items to dispose of. New to the area, he didn’t know where to start. Were there any small containers available? What about a local waste or recycling facility? He ended up loading everything in his Tahoe (not the vehicle for the job!) and drove thirty minutes one way, six different times to get rid of all of his unwanted items. There had to be a better way. If there wasn’t, there should be.

Phillip and John happened to meet and started talking. They agreed: the waste disposal business needed a new solution.

Given their business savvy, they knew that brand integrity, transparency, and convenience were vital. People needed to know who to call when they had materials to get rid of, and the call—or click—had to be quick and easy.

The company’s response had to be fast, cheerful, and reliable. To deliver this service, the rough edges had to be polished off the traditional waste disposal industry, especially for the customers they envisioned serving: homeowners, small businesses, and contractors running small projects.

Along the way, Phillip had reached out to his previous business partner, Mike Ampe. Together they had grown their business to become the largest independent hauler and recycler in the southeast. Prior to this, Mike had successfully built franchise businesses in a technology market. It wasn’t long before all of the pieces fit into place and VaVia was born, providing short term rental of 10- and 15-yard waste containers with the click of a button.

Our goal is to be a household name and a nationwide leader in the small-haul disposal business. We imagine a trusted community of franchises that work together and exchange ideas, but are locally owned, with teams that are involved and committed members of their own community.

FAQ

Absolutely! It's our specialty. We pride ourselves on our same-day/next-day service commitment, and we will go above and beyond to ensure that our customers have the best dumpster rental experience possible. Give us a call or order online to request your same-day/next-day delivery.

Our containers are the roll-off model. This type of dumpster is perfect for construction and renovation projects. VaVia’s dumpsters come in two sizes -- 10 and 15-yards. They are small enough to fit into tight spaces, yet offer lots of room for all kinds of waste and debris.
Depending on the size of your project, you may need a 10-yard or 15-yard dumpster. For smaller projects or projects that require disposal of heavy materials, our 10-yard dumpster will be the best option. For larger projects like full-scale cleanouts or extensive remodels, our 15-yard dumpster is the ideal disposal solution, as it allows for 50% more disposal volume than the 10-yard with only a slightly larger footprint.
Your container can be placed on a driveway or any other solid level surface. Using our smaller single-axle trucks, we can maneuver your dumpster into tight or hard-to-reach areas for maximum efficiency. We will work with you to ensure the container is placed exactly where you need it for your project.
Absolutely! Not only are our dumpsters the perfect size for driveways, they also have an aesthetically pleasing earth-tone design to easily blend into their surroundings. We also provide driveway protection planks when necessary to ensure that there is no damage to your driveway.
We are happy to provide driveway protection upon request. Our driveway protection planks are placed under the back wheels of the container, and we can even place a longer plank under the front rails upon request to ensure that the dumpster never even touches your driveway. We will go above and beyond to make sure you and your property are taken care of when using VaVia.
No, you do not. Our technology platform is designed to give you proactive updates on your order including live text message updates with an ETA on your delivery. Once the delivery is complete, you will receive a text message confirmation of your delivery.
Most non-hazardous waste is allowed in your dumpster rental; however, each VaVia franchise will have varying policies on the types of waste that is acceptable or prohibited based on their local disposal outlets. Always check with your local franchise directly before disposing of any materials that you believe could be prohibited. Please do not include hazardous materials, such as liquid paints, chemicals and propane tanks.
Hazardous and specialized materials including but not limited to:
  • Batteries
  • Paints (oil, aerosol, or water based)
  • Fuels and oils
  • Poison, insecticides, pesticides, herbicides
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Asbestos
  • Propane tanks
  • Microwaves
  • Tires
  • Appliances with freon
  • Televisions and computers
  • No more than five cubic yards of dirt, rock, concrete or heavy material
Yes, there is. Each VaVia franchise will provide information on their included tonnage (if applicable) and total weight limit in their Terms & Conditions document that is sent to you automatically upon account set up.
All containers should be filled with the weight distributed evenly. Depending on the type of material, dumpsters can be filled level to the top of the container. Heavy materials (dirt, brick, rock, concrete, etc..) should be limited to 5 cubic yards to ensure that the weight limit is not exceeded. For safety, overloaded containers may require the customer to offload excess material before the container can be hauled safely.
The total cost to rent a dumpster will vary market to market. Contact your local VaVia franchise for the most up-to-date pricing information.
